I went to a club last night (recommended by LP) and it was fairly nice except for it was completely dead. It was only 9:30 when I went so I guess I shouldn't have expected much. I asked the bar guy when it picked up usually. He told me in about 3 hours. I went back to my hotel expecting to sleep a few hours and return. At midnight I heard my alarm go off but ignored it. I was dead tired.
This morning I checked to see if my bike was still doing ok in the garage, but I guess the garage is closed on Sunday, so I walked around the witches market which was has many odd things; including dead unborn/newborn llamas, which are supposed to bring good luck. I snapped a few pictures and kept going.
Then I ended up at Plaza San Francisco where the main cathedral is. It's Sunday so a service was going on but I still walked around inside a bit. One wonders if cathedrals are templates.
From there I walked down to the "Prado" (the main streets where some kind of festival was going on). The street was closed off to cars - lots of music bands, arts and crafts, and food stalls. I spent a few hours there.
At one point a girl came up to me, kissed me on the cheek and asked if I had been waiting long. She had confused me with a friend she had not seen before. I thought about playing along just for fun but that would have embarrassed her more. I pointed out her mistake and she turned a bright shade of purple. We had a small conversation before her real friend arrived.
Then I went in search of an International bookstore, which turned out to be mismarked in the LP guidebook. I got a taxi and it ended up being about a kilometer away and closed at that. Now here I am at 2pm at the same Italian restaurant as last night, contemplating my ever changing road trip.
I might just do this:
Head south to the border of Argentina. Hit Ruta 40 from there - take that to Mendoza. From Mendoza head east to Buenos Aires/. Rent an apartment there for 2 months and in early September head back to Mendoza and finish Ruta 40 clear to Ushuaia. Then head up and be in Brazil by sometime in October. I'll try to fit in Chile and Paraguay somewhere along the way. I figure I can do Uruguay while I'm staying in Buenos Aires. I'll try to hit Buenos Aires by my birthday - 15 days away, but that calls for fast riding.
Tomorrow I want to do the famous "The Most Dangerous Road in the World". It's the opposite way but it's something I have to do, and it's a short 80km ride.
In Buenos Aires I'll take Spanish courses and work on my neglected business. It cannot be a bad place to spend two months, even in mid winter.
