Uros (Floating Islands), Lago Titicaca, Peru
June 20, 2008
Puno, Peru

I feel like my energy has returned a bit but that might be because I actually have something to do today. I woke up early and went to the docks where I found that the boat to the island I wanted to go to already left. But I met a French guy on the docs and he told me the boat to Uros was leaving soon.

Uros Island is the "Floating Islands" which actually sounded pretty cool. On the boat I also met a Dutch couple and a Canadian couple. All were very friendly. The floating islands were amazing. Each island was made up of a meter thick of dried seaweed straw. Even their houses and boats were made out of this brown grass. I have never seen anything like it before.

I realized I was missing my small camera - I had left it at the restaurant I had breakfast at! Shit! I had planned on staying the night on Uros to make it to Tequile tomorrow. But as cool as floating islands are I don't think that I could spend a whole day there. It's quite isolated. Also I wanted to go back and find my camera.

I asked the restaurant if they had it but they didn't find it. They said the girl who served me in the morning works again at 5pm. So I'll try back then. Right now it's 1:25pm and I'm just having lunch.

Last night some girls came up to the table I was at and asked if I wanted to drink with them. One was very cute but conversation didn't go far as she knew no English and my Spanish is still limited. They left a while later claiming they had somewhere to be. I'll go again tonight to see if I can do better with my Spanish.

Later - 6:45pm

Bitch at the restaurant stole the camera. I know exactly where I had left it and I was the only customer and she was the only one working! I knew it would happen. I had some good photos on there too. Oh well, I'll keep a better eye on my stuff now. But I will still have to invest in another one soon. I cannot very well pull out my massive SLR camera on the road.

Right now I'm at my favorite little bar here in Puno. Not so busy for a Friday night but bound to pick up. Recently I have been reading a book on how to write a novel. I have a few ideas floating around in my head. It will obviously have something to do with travel - semi based on my life so far.

I feel like I have accomplished a lot so far in this life and I think I can create a decent read if I work at it. By the time I was 16 I had a web design business which is still running great. ,I dropped out of high school and flew to Europe at 19. That same year I rented a flat in Edinburgh, Scotland for 3 months taking frequent flights to London for plays, concerts and premiers. By 20 I had flown around the word - from Denver to London to Bahrain to Singapore to Oz and back to Denver. Now at 21 I'm driving a motorcycle through over 11 countries in 2 continents.

And not to forget I took a crotch rocket from Denver to LA, stopping off at Western State College to visit a friend, Moab and Vegas. I hadn't driven a bike since I was 5 years old and I just picked up and went. That trip inspired me to take the world motor tour. I still don't have a motorcycle license. I failed the test! Oops.

On the crotch rocket trip I got pulled over twice - once in Moab and once in Vegas. In Moab I was carrying a stack of firewood on my back on my way to the campsite where I met some VW hippies. The deal was that I buy firewood and they buy beers. The wood on my back slipped while u-turning and I fell over. Not 2 seconds later I see flashing lights. The cop ran my license because he though I had been drinking. It came back clean and he let me go. He didn't check my license for the M, indicating I could ride.

In Vegas the cop just thought I was a bum who stole a bike. I admit I did look it. I had a backpack and sleeping bag attached to my back and I hadn't taken a shower in days. Plus I had slept in the dirt in Moab so my cloths were a mess. I told the cop that I had just gotten my license to ride but the new one was still coming through the mail. I had a piece of paperwork that showed that I took the test but it didn't indicate that I had passed. After a half hour of smooth talk he finally let me go. Later on that day I stopped at a McDonalds and a lady paid for my lunch, figuring I was a bum.

The above was copied directly out of my hand-written journal.
