Mom and I had a rough start. We got in late to Chicago and had no possibility of catching our connection, so we ended up missing it. After a few run-arounds between terminals we finally got the next flight with United an hour or so later with no clue about where our bags would end up. But of course, when we arrived in London our bags were still on a different continent. The baggage guy at Heathrow said they would send them to our hostel when they arrived the next day.
We got to the hostel and freshened up the best we could so we could go to our play in the evening. We had stage seats. It was an interesting play with Daniel Radcliff and Richard Griffith, both of whom are in the Harry Potter movies.
The next couple days we just walked around London and did all the touristy stuff; Buckingham, Tower Bridge, London Eye, Big Ben - the usual things you might do with 3 days in London.
Next stop was Paris. We took the Chunnel (Channel Tunnel), a massive Underground Railroad track with a top speed of 180mph. We had a few drinks and tried to focus our eyes on the landscape flying past.
Our hostel was only a few stops away via the Paris Underground from where the Chunnel dropped us off. Resigning my self to the fact that I'd be carrying mom's (and my) bags everywhere I had to climb a massive staircase to reach our hostel at the top. I think it was five sets of sixteen stairs. I should have expected nothing less of the landscape design, this is the French we're talking about; Notable for nothing in the Design field except for fashion.
Overall Paris was all right I guess. We went to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Sacré Coeur, and Versailles. All the places were super touristy so it was hard to get any good shots with the camera. The main thing I didn't like about Paris was how the easily the waiters at the restaurants were offended. Say one wrong thing and they won't return to your table again. So damn sensitive they are. And the clothes all the guys in Paris wore wouldn't fly anywhere in America except perhaps San Francisco or LA. |
