Tortuguero, Costa Rica (Caribbean Coast)

Tortuguero, Costa Rica
Once I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica from Lima, Peru Nuton (A friend I met on the Plane) and I decided to get out as soon as possible, but we had to stay one night because no buses were headed to our destination for the rest of the day. The 'hotel' was something you might see in a horror movie.

In the morning we headed to Tortuguero, a tiny slip of land inbetween a river and the Caribbean Sea. It's a pretty sweet place. The ocean was too rough to do anything in so we decided to rent a canoe and head down it for a bit. We decided against hiring a guide to take us to the national park by river because of the price... so it was just the two of us, our canoe, and some paddles.

We head toward this tiny canal and we see two beedy eyes peeking up out of the water headed toward us. Nuton sees it first and tells me to back up the boat quick. I find what she is looking at and my heart skips a few beats... It's a frickin' crocodile! Probably not a large one, mind you, but still, a frickin' crocodile! So we turn around and contemplate heading back to shore, but decide against it.

Three hours later we see about four croc's, millions of turtles, a tucan, monkeys, a sloth, and other things. I also attempt to climb a vine hanging down from a tree. I didn't get very far but the idea was fun.
